The Kean Federation of Teachers (KFT), the university’s union of faculty, librarians and professional staff, is sponsoring a scholarship essay contest for Kean students. Winners will receive a check for a sum ranging from $600 to $1,500.
The KFT advocates for working terms and conditions conducive to safety at the work place, professionalism, and academic freedom, as well as quality education that is accessible and affordable to all our students. Download the full application and instructions. Applicants will be judged on the following criteria:
1) Have a record of academic achievement
2) Have a financial need not fully met by other sources of aid
3) Complete and submit an application form and an essay (A, B or C) as required
The essay contest is open to both full-time and part-time Kean undergraduate and graduate students. Scholarship recipients will be selected on the basis of academic achievement, financial need, and evaluation of an essay. Monies will be allocated at the discretion of the KFT Scholarship Committee.
Applicants must be enrolled for the Spring 2018 semester, and have completed the Fall 2017 semester. Scholarship recipients will be honored at the Annual KFT Spring Reception on April 30th, 2018 for their families and friends, KFT representatives, Kean faculty and staff. It is anticipated two to four awards will be granted to recipients in one or more of the following categories:
¨ Full-time undergraduate (enrolled with at least 12 credits): $1,200 award
¨ Part-time undergraduates (enrolled with up to 9 credits): $600 award
¨ Full-time Graduate (enrolled in masters’ or post baccalaureate program): $1,500 award
¨ Part-time Graduate (enrolled in masters’ or post baccalaureate program): $750 award
